Empowering Education Across Africa – See What We’ve Been Up To!

As part of our mission to ensure that every child has access to quality education, we have had a vibrant season of engagement with communities, educators, and partners. This newsletter highlights the key activities from March and April that are shaping the future of education across our regions. From energizing trainings to inspiring visits, the past few months have been full of impact, insight, and incredible partnerships across Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi. We continue to drive grassroots change in education through fellow placements, donor engagement, school visits, and teacher training initiatives across Africa — all aimed at improving literacy and fighting poverty. We promise, YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Pre-Field Training Across Regions (April 22–25)

Our fellows underwent intensive pre-field training in Nairobi, Coast, and Western Kenya to prepare them for impactful school placements. These sessions equipped them with practical skills, contextual understanding, and a deep sense of mission as they begin their journey in our partner schools.

Donor Engagement – Visit from Banyan Tree Foundation (March 24)

We were honored to host Kristen Kopko, a representative from the Banyan Tree Foundation. After meeting the team at our offices, she joined our field staff in visiting four partner schools, seeing firsthand how our interventions are transforming classrooms and lives.

Founder Visit to Western Region (March 27–28)

The Western region had the pleasure of welcoming our founder, Peggy Mativo, for school visits and engagement. Her presence concluded at the Head Teachers Summit on March 28, where she inspired dialogue around leadership, innovation, and partnership in education.

Head Teachers Summits Across All Regions

On March 28, simultaneous summits were held in Nairobi, Coast, and Western, offering school leaders the opportunity to learn about PACEmaker’s interventions and collaborate on solutions. In Uganda, a regional summit took place on April 17, focusing on the theme of digital literacy in schools.

Building On Uganda Success

In 2025, PACEmaker International, in partnership with School for Life Uganda through School for Life Australia, has made remarkable strides in transforming education across the region. This year, the collaboration has seen the successful recruitment and training of 40 dedicated fellows, who are now placed across various partner schools, working to inspire learning and drive meaningful change in the classroom.
The journey hasn’t stopped at placement. Through consistent bi-weekly trainings, these fellows continue to be equipped with vital knowledge and life skills—ensuring that their impact extends beyond teaching, nurturing well-rounded, community-minded leaders of tomorrow.
April was a particularly dynamic month, marked by two significant milestones: On April 17th, Uganda hosted a Head Teachers Summit, where school leaders engaged with our interventions and explored how best to support the fellows in their schools, especially around the crucial area of digital literacy. Just a week later, on April 24th, the region held a TaRL (Teaching at the Right Level) Teachers Champion Training, empowering teachers with practical strategies to help every child achieve foundational reading and writing skills.
Uganda’s success stands as a beacon of what intentional partnership, community engagement, and educational innovation can achieve. And we’re just getting started!

Street Business School Graduation – Malawi (March 27)

In Malawi, we celebrated the completion of Street Business School (SBS) training. Parents and small business owners from our partner communities gained essential business skills to grow sustainable livelihoods and combat poverty.

Coming Up!

Get ready for our PACE Teacher Champion Training this August — where educators will once again come together to drive classroom transformation.
From school leaders and fellows to donors and parents, we are grateful to every individual who makes this work possible. These past months have been a testament to the power of community and the shared vision of equitable education for all.
